Dr Gergo Porkolab completed his studies at the University of Szeged and HUN-REN Biological Research Centre in Szeged, Hungary. His doctoral research, under the supervision of Prof Maria Deli, focused on how blood vessels in the brain acquire unique properties known as the blood-brain barrier (BBB). Specifically, he developed a method to generate reliable in vitro models of the human BBB for preclinical drug discovery.
As a NeuroInsight fellow, Dr Porkolab will focus on blood vessel stabilization as a promising strategy against neurological disorders in Prof Matthew Campbell’s lab at Trinity College Dublin.
