Muhammad Shahid received his Master’s degree in Computer Engineering with a specialization in computer vision and machine learning from Pakistan in 2016. His Master’s thesis, “Retinal Vessel Segmentation in Fundus Images,” focused on developing image analysis techniques for medical applications. He earned his Ph.D. in 2021 in Computer Vision and Machine Learning at the Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (IIT), Genoa, Italy, in collaboration with the University of Genoa. His doctoral research centered on human motion understanding, with a particular focus on analyzing social interactions through visual non-verbal cues. Following his Ph.D., he joined the DSP Lab at the Department of Electrical, Electronic, Telecommunications Engineering, and Naval Architecture (DITEN), University of Genoa, as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow. His work there involved the assessment of mobility and balance control in post-stroke patients during rehabilitation, utilizing wearable wireless IMU sensors and foot pressure sensors to support clinical decision-making.
Currently, he is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at NeuroInsight under the supervision of Professor Brian Caulfield. His research focuses on developing a vision-based motor assessment framework for neurological disorders. As part of this work, he is building a web-based application capable of capturing videos of participants performing motor tasks and analyzing their performance using key clinical and biomechanical metrics.
