Biography

Claire Gillan is an Associate Professor at Trinity Institute of Neurosciences (TCD). Her interests are the identification of biomarkers for disease diagnosis, prognosis and cognitive and neural markers of treatment response. Her approach is the analysis of rich environmental, cognitive and neural data and their interactions to understand what puts someone at risk of mental illness, to predict crises before they happen, or to decide on what treatment is best for whom.

Professor Gillan is the recipient of an ERC Starting Grant and SFI Frontiers for the Future award. Taking a citizen science approach, she has developed a smartphone app (www.neureka.ie) for large-scale dementia detection and mental health research and outreach (uptake in 50 countries), analysing natural language extracted from social media. She is experienced in working with industry and partners with Dublin-based Silvercloud Health in CBT research.
