Domain / Application Expertise
Rory Johnson is an Associate Professor at UCD where he directs the Laboratory for Genomics of Long Noncoding RNA and Disease (GOLD Lab). GOLD Lab’s interdisciplinary (computational/experimental) team conducts world-leading research into the development of new therapies targeting the non-protein coding ‘Dark Matter’ of the human genome. Their research expertise sits at the intersection of powerful new technologies: data science / machine learning, genome editing and RNA therapeutics (RNATX).
The team has a track record of developing new computational / experimental tools and patented preclinical therapies. The lab plays active roles in several international consortia, including GENCODE and FANTOM. Rory has worked at leading international research centres and is a highly published researcher with multiple recent publications in Nature, NAR, Cell Genomics, Nature Genetics with a total of >36,000 citations. He is a recipient of an SFI Future Research Leader award (2018) and the IRC Laureate award (2022). He has a keen interest in commercialisation and acted as the Swiss National Centre for Competence in Research Co-Delegate for Knowledge and Technology Transfer and co-founded the successful young entrepreneur workshop ‘Bench2biz’
His addition links NeuroInsight to the exciting world of non-protein-coding RNAs and brings new computational methods for development of new RNA therapeutics.
